Nicky Gauci 10th in the 5th Round of Rotax Max Challenge Italia

A great comeback by Gauci after starting from P22

Nicky Gauci competed in the 5th round of the Rotax Max Challenge Italia at the Franciacorta track, marking his first time at this venue. His last experience with the Rotax engine was in September at Jesolo. The Senior Category featured 41 participants, and Gauci qualified P12 in his group, placing him 24th overall.

Starting heat 1 from P16, he managed to finish in P11. In heat 2, despite starting from P16 and finishing P10 on track, he was demoted to P22 due to a penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag, a decision made by the stewards despite unclear circumstances.

From the heats, Gauci qualified to start in P22 in the final, with only 36 drivers making it to this stage out of 41. He delivered an impressive performance in the final, finishing in P10 after overtaking 12 karts.

He extended his gratitude to his sponsors, Mediterranean Building Finishes, BMW Malta, and World Pro Racing, for their support. He also thanked his team, MKC Motorsport, for providing quality equipment and kart and engine setup support, and expressed appreciation for his father’s hard work on the go-kart, even on Father’s Day.

Additionally, Gauci acknowledged the efforts of fellow Maltese competitors at the event, Eman Muscat, and Benjamin Westwood in the Junior category.

Next, Gauci will compete in the Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy in Le Mans, France, from July 16-20.
